The Motivation of Being Homeless is a “how to” guide for a life without a home. This book gives many practical methods to help you make your life a little easier and more enjoyable. The author, David Linthicum, has been in his own struggles with homelessness and other aspects of the life we are all trying to avoid. In his own words:

“In this book, I will share my personal story, as well as what I have learned from other homeless people. It will give you the tools to prevent this from happening to you and to be successful at it. I will share the steps you can take, right now, to stay out of the streets and keep your head above water.”

This book is part of the How to Be Homeless series. These books focus on giving someone who has been homeless a starting point to deal with the pitfalls of life. The first book in the series is titled, “How to Be Homeless – A Comprehensive Guide to Prepare Yourself For the Future.”

I was surprised by some of the similarities between this book and the first one I read. It seems that these authors have worked with each other before. The way it is written and the tone of the book is quite similar to the other book. One similarity between the two is that they both focus on the importance of preparation.

In the first book I read on how to be homeless, I did find a few people who were very negative about my experience, but the majority seemed to be supportive and uplifting. Here, too, I did find a few people who were pretty negative, but there were also a lot of supportive voices and testimonials.

Part of the reason for the positive attitude toward the book is that the author acknowledges what others already know about homelessness. But, he does not dwell on what most of us know already. Instead, he provides tips that can be used to overcome the problems you face in your life right now. He also presents a plan for your future that can be used as a reference point if things get bad again.

Most of the information is not new, but it does provide a fresh perspective on some of the issues. The book also has a section that covers dealing with a chronic condition, such as diabetes. This is a serious problem for many, and I liked this section even more than the tips on dealing with homelessness. It is difficult for most people to get a handle on how to live with a chronic condition.

If you suffer from a chronic illness, this may be a good idea for you to read. The sections I found were well researched and very easy to follow.

There is some advice on how to be homeless that I would not use for my own personal situation. It may not be suitable for everyone. However, some of the things I would consider helping someone else with would be the following:

This is not to say that the tips are not useful, because they are very helpful in many cases. It is to say that if the tips are not suitable for your circumstances, you may want to look at something else. The author emphasizes that this is a first step in helping you and should not be seen as a last resort.

I liked how the author presented the motivation of being homeless. Although not all of it is appropriate for the general public, it provides a healthy perspective to what most of us already know. Hopefully, many of us will think about how to live and be homeless for a while before we get stuck in the same rut. The Motivation of Being Homeless is written in a conversational style and could probably be read in a short period of time. If you do read this book, there is no need to worry about reading it all the way through. You will pick up some tips that will be useful in your own life, and you will want to read more to fill in the gaps.
